Flip Of A Coin
I wonder how many of you make decisions by flipping a coin. If you need to make a big decision do you flip a coin? Sounds to simple and, well, flippant. I believe their is a definite place for flipping a quarter. If you are trying to decide which job to take or which girl to ask, I say flip a coin. Let's say you decide heads you will ask Sally and tails you will ask Jane. Now, you flip the coin and call HEADS but it lands TAILS!!! Your spirit groans because in all reality you want to ask Sally. This means that the flipping of a coin can be a very helpful tool in making decisions. This theory will work for other aspects of life as well. How many of you have flipped a coin?

Glen,
I can't believe you brought up the subject of flipping a coin! I often tell my wife to flip a coin when she is faced with a decision. She almost daily asks "What shall I make for supper?" AH! No better time to break out a quarter!
When does asking God for direction instead of just flipping a coin come into play?
I guess we could do both. Pray before flipping the coin, asking God for direction. Assign God's yes to "heads" and His no to "tails". We do something similar with the "lot" do we not?
I like that Rob....
Praying doesn't guarantee clear answers does it?
You got the idea Glen. I sure have not seen God float note cards down with answers on them. I prefer the open/closed door, fleece, lot, or coin flip type of decision making.
Looking forward to more input on this subject.
Shine,
Thanks for your input on this subject. I agree that on big decisions frequent and earnest prayer needs to be a big part of the process. However, couldn't part of "listening" be found in the circumstances that develope? A closed door could be considered a "no" from God. If you would not have found a home in that scenario you mentioned, would you have seen that as an answer of "no" from God? Also, the use of the "lot" is a scriptural concept. Just thinking along with you.
In my short expierence I have found that even after praying, waiting, etc. I have felt no clear direction. The point I am trying to make is this. Flipping a coin may in fact give you some direction. You can flip a coin and realize, you know what, that isn't what God wants me to do. Why couldn't God use a coin flip?
I am not in any way, shape, or form trying to minimize prayer. All I am saying is that this simple flip of a coin may in fact give you some direction. Good points everyone.....
Glen, your logic seems to really line up with mine on this subject! LOL
If you type in the phrase "cast lots" at crosswalk.com's bible study tools, it shows 19 references to the use of the lot. Here is the URL:
