Updated Photo

Kaiden is doing so well. Here is an updated picture of his lips. I don't know what all I have posted but if you notice his lower lip is starting to pull back together. If you take the mouse pointer and draw a line where you think the lip line is you will notice how much lip is missing. The big question is how much of this will regrow without surgery. Nobody knows. The people we have talked to have never seen anything like this. His upper lip doesn't look as bad to me or not as deep. So, time will tell...

We feel like he is doing better. The pain has definitely diminished. We keep wrapped up as much as possible. This keeps his lips moist and reduces the pain etc. He was very happy when he woke up this morning.

The Facts Of The Case

For those of you who do not know what happened and don't understand what happened here is what happened. It all began several years ago with our struggling sweeper cord. It had developed a short in the cord which I fixed. Here is how I fixed the cord. I went to Wal-Mart and purchased a plug. I then cut the wire and used the plug to reconnect the wire. So, now we have a plug to plug the sweeper into the wall and another plug close to sweeper. When I wired the plug I put the male end on the wall side and the female end on the sweeper side. So, when Kaiden was playing with the cord he managed to pull it apart and put the male end in his mouth. Unfortunately, it was still plugged into the wall. He had pulled apart the plug where I had fixed the short. If I had used the female end on the wall side he probably would not have been burned as bad but I don't know for sure. Hopefully this will clear up any confusion on how this actually happened. He wasn't playing with bare wires. I had trouble figuring out right at first. This makes sense. If you look at the early pictures you can see where the prongs touched his lips. He put it in his mouth upside down which explains why the upper lip is in worse shape then the lower lip....

Kaiden loved riding around the unit in his little fire engine.

He received some balloons and a teddy bear from our church. Thanks! He loved the balloons, and the teddy bear did a wonderful job of distracting him while the nurse changed the dressing on his IV.

He spent some time looking out the window, lots of activity to watch. He giggled when I took him over there.

Kaiden is looking and feeling lots better today. This pic was taken this morning. The dr is saying he can maybe go home by Monday but maybe not til Tues. They will evaluate Monday. They are keeping him because of the risk of infection until the lip scabs, and also their is an artery in our upper lips, and if he would start to bleed it could be a big bleed. So we are just waiting for him to scab over basically. They are saying surgery won't be for a couple weeks. The good news is the plastic surgeon said she doesn't think his lower lip is going to need anything, but his upper lip will.
He is happy.. when he is being entertained... otherwise he is very buggy. He would love to get down and crawl around and explore, unfortunetly his mother won't let him.
He is supposed to be going to sleep, but is playing in his crib right now... His nurse decided to hold off on pain meds.. so he hasn't had any since about 5:00... he really doesn't seem to be in any pain.
Thanks so much for your prayers!

The Deal At This Point

Ok folks,
Here is what we know. Kaiden will be here through the weekend. The pediatric plastic surgeon was in this morning. She said, "we will be good friends before this is over." The muscle on both lips has been damaged which means he will not be able to control his lips like before in regards to controlling drool and things. It could very well affect his speech and who knows what in the future. They will not do anything until next week. This would, I think, be a consultation with the pediatric plastic surgeon. I am assuming she will put together a game plan for the future.
We are very thankful his life was spared. We are somewhat nervous about the future. Fear of the unknown. Will he always talk funny? Will his face look funny. Things like this are what goes through a parents mind. Yet we realize God is in control and I keep asking myself what God is trying to teach me through this. One thing I realized is think I have become the dreaded work all the time kind of man. I have not been home much for the last several months. Home and awake at the same time...
Some thing needs to change. Surely God could have used something else to teach me this. Maybe it has more to do with trust in Him. The Father. The one who died for each of us.
We appreciate your prayers...

Kaiden
