Spooked

Last night, about midnight, I heard this rumbling noise. I assumed it was ice/snow sliding off the barn roof. The noise spooked the cows and they had a glorious time racing around the barn. The bad thing was they tore a gate down and my high cows got in with the low cows. So about 25 high cows went through the parlor twice. I didn't milk them but it took longer to finish milking. Anyway, today Dwayne, the neighboring farmer, wondered if I had heard thunder last night. He said his wife had seen lightning and then heard this rumbling of thunder about midnight. So, have experienced my first thunder snow. It sounded completely different from a thunderstorm. A more muffled sound. The lightning probably would look different also. Wish I could have seen the lightning. Have you ever seen/heard a thunder snow?

Mud

Rain is a good thing, really. It truly is. I wish, however, we could space it out a little more. Why not have more rain in July and August and a lot less in Dec. and Jan. We have red clay for soil. It is really amazing stuff. In the summer it acts like a brick. Hard, and very difficult to work with. In the winter it is greasy and very slippery. I managed to get a dump truck full of wood stuck today. It isn't stuck really, just spinning.

Weather

The weather has been very odd for us. It was cold all week. It feels like Feburary. I know most people would scoff at us for considering highs of 40 cold but the last several years we have been having 70 degrees for a high temperature. So this is a major switch for us and I am wondering if we are going to have a very cold winter....

Rain Facts

One of my neighbors had five inches of rain. Another had six inches of rain. Another neighbor said he had 3 inches of rain. I wonder who is right?

More Of The Same

We had another half inch of water yesterday evening. That puts us at close to 2.5 inches this week so far. So far, since we finished chopping this spring, we have had about an inch a week. The early corn is over head tall now and is looking really good. I am humbled when I look at it. I have done nothing different this year than I have any other year. Water makes all the difference. I am very thankful...

More Rain

More rain fell on the greater Marysville area this evening. There was some hail at one point in the storm. It appeared to be three different storms. The second storm hit thirty minuets after the first. The third seemed to swing in directly on the heels of the second. Of course I may be wrong. It may have only been two storms. Anyway, what difference does it make? It rained, end of article...

Rain

It is hard to believe how much rain we are getting this summer so far. Everytime we need some we get some. This afternoon around 2 it rained about half an inch. Then from about 5-7 it rained fairly steady. A very nice slow drizzly rain. So, I am guess we had about an inch of rain in the last two days. (It rained last evening also.) Corn is looking good... I am blessed...

More Rain

We are having an unbelievably wet spring. The clouds showered upon us 1.5 inches Saturday night. It appears that we may well have got another 1.5 inches last night and it is suppose to rain all day today. What a blessing....

Frigid

Once again we are having some very frigid weather. This morning it was about 20 with a windchill of 7. Tomorrow morning is suppose to be 9. I don't know what the wind chill will be. Beautiful weather. Very brilliant, high, clear sky. When the temperature gets much below freezing we never have any kind of precipitation. It's too cold too snow...
I will need lots of clothes in the morning when I go to milk...

Snow

It snowed this morning. This afternoon it turned to sleet before finishing off with rain. It was a very wet and cold rain. I was driving the skidloader for a while this afternoon and my hands were numb by the time I got finished. I don't like that so much. I love the snow and wish we would get more of it.

Brrr

It is currently 13 degrees outside. This is quite rare for us southern folks. Upper teens is rather normal. Low teens is unusual and single digits is shocking. But by this weekend we will be having highs of 50 and lows of 40. Not bad for Jan.

Flood Watch

We are currently under a flood watch until sometime tonight. I would guess we have had close to 5 inches so far. We have %100 chance of rain today and into the night with a %50 chance of showers tomorrow morning.

More Rain

It began raining just before lunch and rained till almost three. They are calling for rain the next three days or so. The interesting thing is our annual school sale/benefit auction is this Saturday. The last three years or so it has rained each school sale weekend. I am beginning to think we should have the school sale in July or early August. Maybe it would rain in the summer if we did...

Heat

I don't know if I can remember a sept. that has been dominated by such heat. Today it was 96 degrees at 5:30 in the evening. I have been told the temperatures are suppose to be dropping by the middle of the week with highs topping off around 70. This would be much more better.

Ahh, Rain

This afternoon around 4:00 we had the most beautiful storm. I would say it rained roughly three-fourths of an inch. The corn was soaking it in. Rain is a good thing...

The Odds

Monday their was a 20% chance of rain and it rained an inch! Friday the chance of rain was whopping 70% and we got nothing. Whats up with that?

Rain

Last night we got rain!!!! How sweet it was.... I am guessing we got around an inch. This is the first rain of any significance we have gotten for almost three weeks. Needless to say I am relieved.

High Wind

We had a high wind advisory today. These high winds were also causing some newly laid shingles to flap in the breeze at my rental property. I breezed, literally, over to the house and scrambled up the ladder where the full force of the blast met me. While I was fixing my problem I felt the house shudder from the mighty blast. These winds are suppose to blow until noon tomorrow.

Rain

It started raining around 7:30-8:00 last evening. It stopped about 6-7:00 this evening. I am unsure how much it rained but it was a lot. We were getting very dry. The hay has really greened up and the rye is looks like it may have grown six inches today in the rain. It will be interesting to see how much it grows in the next week. The forecast is calling for temperatures ranging from the high fifties to the high sixties. How is your spring shaping up?
