Circumcision

Why did God have Moses command the children of Israel to circumcise the baby boys on day eight? Why not day two or day twenty-two? Sounds legalistic to me...

hey Glenn, this is Nick in MI. Actually Circumcision is a topic that I love to discuss. I am a non-circumcision advocate! Circumcising in Moses' time did have a purpose because, like eating pork, things were not as clean back then. We did not circumcise Eli and I am just thankful that Natalie was a girl or she would have been cut.

So biblically, the circumcision thing is legalistic and has no purpose or place in the new covenant church. I don't have my Bible here with me at school but, Paul mentions circumcision several times in the new testament and each time says it is not necessary, not something that the new Greek or Roman Christians needed to do. So that is my thought! Don't do it! It is a horrible thing to do to a boy! I have a really good book I could send you if you want to read more. There are lots of books out there but this one is my favorite! Okay, gotta run!

Sorry Nick, but I wasn't referring to circumcision itself as being legalistic. It may be so and I would love to read your thoughts on it. I was referring to God saying it had to be on day eight. Why day eight?
